Job Title: Phytosanitary Leader
Location: Red Fox Las Mercedes Farm, Santa Ana, El Salvador.
We are a leading company in the production of ornamental plants, committed to maintaining the highest standards of plant health and phytosanitary practices. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Phytosanitary Leader to manage our phytosanitary operations and lead our pest, disease, and virus monitoring team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in maintaining the health of our plants and preventing phytosanitary risks.
Position Summary:
As the Phytosanitary Leader, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing hygiene protocols, pest and disease management strategies, and virus control in our production areas. You will manage a dedicated monitoring team, ensuring effective scouting for pests, diseases, and viruses, and lead efforts to mitigate risks to our crops. You will also collaborate with other departments to ensure the successful implementation of phytosanitary measures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Hygiene & Sanitation: Develop and enforce hygiene protocols to minimize the risk of pests, diseases, and viruses.
• IPM Strategy: Lead and execute Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies together with other departments, ensuring effective pest and disease control.
• Monitoring Team Leadership: Manage the pest, disease, and virus monitoring team, ensuring timely and accurate scouting and reporting for stakeholders.
• Risk Management: Identify phytosanitary risks and implement corrective actions to address outbreaks or potential threats. The use of FMEA tool is part of the risk management strategy.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, influencing them to adopt and adhere to phytosanitary measures.
• Crisis Management: Remain calm and focused during critical situations, guiding the team toward effective solutions and risk control.
• Quality Systems: Ensure compliance with quality management systems and regulatory standards provided by the company and external sources.
• Training: Provide ongoing training to the monitoring team and staff on pest and disease management and phytosanitary protocols.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Degree in Agricultural Science, Plant Protection, or a related field.
• Proven experience in phytosanitary management, including pest, disease, and virus monitoring in the ornamental plant industry or similar.
• Strong leadership skills and experience managing teams.
• Expertise in Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
• Analytical and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to handle pressure and manage crises effectively.
• Knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and regulatory standards.
• Strong communicator with the ability to influence and motivate cross-functional teams.
• Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution.
